Soft tissue therapy

Sports Massage Therapy

Sports Massage Therapy is a professional hands-on soft tissue treatment designed to help relieve muscular tension, reduce discomfort and support the body’s natural recovery process.

Using a range of massage techniques, each session is tailored to individual needs, whether the client is recovering from exercise, managing everyday muscular tightness or maintaining their physical wellbeing.

Despite its name, Sports Massage is not only for athletes. It may be suitable for people experiencing muscular tension, stiffness or discomfort associated with sport, exercise, work or the physical demands of everyday life.

Every Sports Massage treatment at The SAF Clinic is delivered using an evidence-informed and personalised approach.

Session Duration 30 minutes — standalone Sports Massage appointment only.

If Sports Massage is combined with another treatment, such as Wet Cupping, Dry Cupping, Fire Cupping or Graston Therapy, the overall appointment duration will vary depending on the personalised treatment plan.

Traditional therapies

Cupping Therapy

The SAF Clinic offers Dry Cupping, Fire Cupping and Wet Cupping, also known as Hijama.

Each treatment is performed in a clean, professional environment using appropriate hygiene procedures and is adapted around individual needs and treatment goals.

Cupping has been practised for centuries across many cultures and continues to be chosen by clients as part of their recovery, body-maintenance and general-wellbeing routines.

Clients who are unsure which option is most appropriate can discuss their goals and available treatments before attending.

Dry Cupping

Dry Cupping uses specialist cups to create suction over the skin without making any incisions.

The suction effect may help support local circulation, muscular relaxation and relief from everyday tightness.

Dry Cupping may be suitable for general muscular tightness, stiffness, exercise recovery and body maintenance.

Session Duration Approximately 10–20 minutes when performed as part of a treatment session.

Fire Cupping

Fire Cupping is a traditional cupping technique in which controlled heat is used to create suction inside a cup before it is applied to the skin.

The flame is used only to create suction and does not come into contact with the client’s skin.

Fire Cupping generally produces stronger suction than Dry Cupping and may be selected for clients seeking a stronger cupping technique for muscular tightness and body maintenance.

Session Duration Approximately 10–20 minutes when performed as part of a treatment session.

Wet Cupping / Hijama

Wet Cupping, commonly known as Hijama, is a traditional therapy practised for generations and holds particular significance within the Sunnah.

Following an initial application of suction, small superficial skin incisions are carefully made using sterile, single-use equipment before the cups are reapplied. This allows a small amount of blood to be drawn from the treated area.

Many clients choose Hijama as part of their wellbeing routine or for its traditional and spiritual significance.

At The SAF Clinic, every Hijama treatment is carried out in a professional environment with hygiene, safety, comfort and responsible practice as priorities.

Session Duration Approximately 10–20 minutes, excluding consultation and preparation time.

Preparation

Before Your Appointment

To help ensure treatment can be carried out safely and comfortably, please review the guidance below before attending.

Complete Your Consultation and Consent Form

All clients must complete the Consultation and Consent Form before receiving treatment. This allows relevant health information and treatment suitability to be reviewed.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to the selected treatment area while maintaining privacy and comfort.

Stay Well Hydrated

Drink water before the appointment, particularly when attending a cupping session.

Eat Before Your Appointment

Unless advised otherwise, eat a light meal approximately one to two hours before attending. Arriving on an empty stomach is not recommended, particularly for Wet Cupping.

Share Relevant Health Information

Disclose relevant medical conditions, allergies, medications and recent health changes through the Consultation and Consent Form.

Ask Questions

Contact Safwan before attending if you have questions or are unsure about the available treatment options.

Shaving the Treatment Area (Cupping Only)

If you have significant body hair in the area being treated, we kindly ask that you shave the treatment area before your appointment.

This is important because excessive hair can prevent the cups from creating a proper seal, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment and causing the cups to lose suction more easily.

If the area is not shaved, we may be unable to perform your cupping treatment or achieve the best possible results.

Please note: This advice applies only to Dry Cupping, Wet Cupping (Hijama), and Fire Cupping. It does not apply to Sports Massage or Graston Therapy (IASTM).

Appointment Reminder

  • Complete the Consultation and Consent Form
  • Stay hydrated
  • Eat a light meal before attending, particularly before Wet Cupping
  • Wear suitable comfortable clothing
  • Arrive on time
  • Contact the clinic if relevant health information changes

Follow Your Personalised Aftercare Advice

Allow Your Body Time to Recover

Allow the treated area time to settle. Depending on the treatment, clients may be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths, saunas or swimming for approximately 24 hours.

Monitor Your Recovery

Wet Cupping, Fire Cupping and Dry Cupping may leave temporary circular marks or mild tenderness. These usually fade over the following days.
